The Sal de la Puna project (SDLP), lies in the Salar de Pastos Grandes, the salt flats in western Salta, at an altitude of 3,800-4,000 masl. This project is operated by Ganfeng's business partner, Arena Minerals, which is carrying out exploration work.
The drilling program initially centered on the Almafuerte and Graciela blocks, and pursued the objectives of upgrading the category of the resources and increasing the SDLP project’s resource as a whole. Diamond drilling was first carried out in the Almafuerte block to intercept an uninterrupted gravel aquifer lying at 334-634 meters at the bottom of the drill-hole.
The exploratory drilling phase in the Barreal II block, forming part of the northern section of the Project, has recently been completed. Here, the exploratory well was drilled to a total depth of 620 meters and located two brine aquifers. Both of the brine aquifers discovered are predominantly composed of alluvial sands with some halite. The lower aquifer represents the highest-grade intercept ever reported in the Pastos Grandes basin. The results obtained so far have been encouraging.
